Scott's May 1st Message -- Discussion Thread

I just thought it would be nice if we talked/discussed, the note that Scott sent to us May 1st. I've jotted and scribbled (heehee) a few of my thoughts.

Scott’s Note to Everyone on May 1st:

Quote:
Hey gang,

Saw5 was great fun and, I assure you all, under the steady hand of new director David Hackel and returning director of photography David Armstrong, the franchise looks and feels and sounds better than ever. Producer Dan Heffner, again, did a masterful job assembling another Cracker Jack crew. WARNING - some of the traps in 5 are so terrifying that even this experienced crew had to take a break, walk outside to stop shaking. Grown men reduced to a blubbering mess...and I was one of them. I’m still having nightmares.

Been home two weeks and have not had a chance to slow down with all the TV meetings. I haven't found that perfect thing yet, but you will be the first to know when I do. Some excellent pilots being shot. Very impressed with the quality out there, though may want to take a break from series television.

Aliens News - game, set, match. Lindsey, Dan and Adhir are all doing great and I think they will all be huge mega-stars. Three very talented actors and the nicest people you could ever hope to work with. Love em.

Movie News - I have been offered a wonderful indie film that will give me the opportunity to act, produce AND contribute some of my music. Very excited about this film, as the writer is an exciting new talent and kindred spirit. Details coming.

Screenplays - 8 completed, 2 in development. I may need the paper in case I run out of fire wood) also.... trying to get the life story rights to one of my idols growing up. It's a film I want to direct, as well as write.

Pilots - one completed and currently being read at a network. News coming.

Art - in process of moving to a new, bigger studio with tons of natural light! Also, considering building a website so that I can offer my work online.

That's it for now, gang. Remember to love each other and to tell the people closest to you that you are there for them. All we have is each other, ourselves.

What an interesting read -- quite sudden and totally unexpected with all the information we were absorbing the other night. Does anyone else get the feeling that this guy is running on nothing but go-go juice since the ending of GG? I thought I’d write down a few of my thoughts about his plans for the near future.

Okay, now how many “Saw” series connoisseurs are there in this Forum?? I’ve been doing some research on the past movies and what stands out the most, and seems to be consistent -- is that there is no consistency in this series. Each Saw movie tells a different story; different settings; different characters (some overlap between movies) because most of them die in each movie; and the level of horror seems to go up a couple of notches with each new movie. The only common denominator is Jigsaw -- John Kramer. Scott told us last year in a pre-Saw IV interview that Saw IV was about a kind of love story -- and a story of how John Kramer ended and how Jigsaw began. My question is: Does that mean that Saw V is “Prelude to a Kiss”?? I’m not a fan of horror films per se and I’m not as wiggly as some when it comes to that genre of movie theme, but when there’s an interview with the Director of the movie (Saw V) who states that there’s a trap so dangerous that it’s going to need extra medical staff on site and that there’s a higher probability of bodily harm to the actor -- and also that he (Director) couldn’t wait to call that actor and ask if “he” (he used the masculine pronoun) was willing to participate in that trap, I’m thinking “okay, we’ve crossed some line here -- an envelope has been pushed just a little bit too far.” Okay, so there’s been some discussion on actually how dangerous things could or could not be on sets and actual filming -- grand-standing, keeping the hype high so people are anxious to see the film -- and all of that. I just seems to me that it takes some “unusual” people to pull these kinds of movies off onto the public, to make them want to come back to see more. Saw has been very successful in keeping the viewers at the edge of their seats to date, though I’ve read some rumblings that Saw should end at V (“5”). Doesn’t matter to me -- as long as Scott is in IV, V and VI, I will be watching IV, V and VI. It’s gotta be a “guy” thing -- I don’t get what’s so entertaining when Scott says “… some of the traps are so terrifying that …[you] had to take a break and walk outside to stop shaking….. reduced to a blubbering mess…. and that Scott was one of them and still has nightmares.” Hype??? Maybe (and hope so). Whatever the case may be, Scott sounds like he had a lot of fun -- again -- filming a horror flick. I hope he had a lot of fun because I want this to be his “last” movie of this genre. Bottom line -- this franchise has done very well for the past 4+ years. I’m not expecting anything less than a huge hit for Saw V as well. Nothing in the cards that is telling me otherwise. Kudos to Scott and all that worked on this project!!!

Hot, Hot, Hot. Finally!!! Someone(s) has/have finally recognized this man for the genius that he is. It’s about time!!! I love his short and sweet sentences in the form of a Haiku -- what kind of meeting??? Is it for an acting role, directing role, writer’s role, producing role???? I swear he’s getting as bad as MA and his “fill-in-the-blank-letters” game -- ugh. I like that he wants to keep us informed -- makes us feel extremely special that “we” will be the “first” to know when he chooses a new project for television. The phrase “…though [i] may want to take a break from series television” makes me a little nervous. Any time there’s a day or a week that goes by without a Scott Patterson fix -- in the words of Rory “We take disappointment extremely hard. I mean it -- property damage is often involved.” He did mention last year that he wanted to take a year off after GG -- and when he was told “he wasn’t Brad Pitt” [I could just slap the genius that said that to him], it put him in the position of accepting the Aliens role to begin with. So look what happens when Scott has a few extra minutes to himself instead of the strenuous, rigorous, marathon hours to film GG? If he doesn’t want series of his own -- would he consider a recurring role? Would that make him more flexible?? It can be a slippery slope when you walk away from television role prospects. I wouldn’t want to miss out on any chance to see Scott Patterson on the television screen.

3. Aliens News - Game. Set. Match. Lindsey, Dan and Adhir are all doing great and I think they will all be huge mega-stars. Three very talented actors and the nicest people you could ever hope to work with. Love em.

Talk about up close and personal (Game, Set, Match) -- no wiggle room there!! Well, I said I would hang on to Aliens for a Season 2 until the Fat Lady Sings -- and she’s now singing an opera!!! To be honest reality was smacking me in the face -- I was just hoping for a miracle or two. And after much pondering (Luke’s words: “Pondering by nature is a slow connotation”), I’ve come to this conclusion a couple of times (I recognize that tree) that maybe Aliens was just a one-season stepping stone for Scott -- he did take this role very quickly -- within 2 weeks after he returned home from Toronto from Saw IV. He seemed to be on go-go juice from January 2007 til around November 10th -- almost without a break. It’s warming to know that he encourages and promotes younger people who are starting out with acting, and although younger, has the potential of being great at their craft. He did that with Alexis as well. When will the proper people in the industry do the same for Scott? He doesn’t sound like a guy that likes tooting his own horn solely. It would be nice for him to get some recognition from his peers and the upper echelon. I hope it’s a slip that he forgot to add Amy Pietz to the list (though he does write “Three very talented actors…”). I would hate to think that Amy Pietz and Scott did part on anything less than great terms.

4. Movie News - I have been offered a wonderful indie film that will give me the opportunity to act, produce AND contribute some of my music. Very excited about this film, as the writer is an exciting new talent and kindred spirit. Details coming.

Wow, an independent film!! I remember during one of the WB tours, the tour-guide said that just about every actor who works with WB (on contract) also has a production company (and office) at the Studios. Some of them have real swanky offices, like Clint Eastwood -- practically a majority shareholder of the WB (acts like it anyway). It doesn’t surprise me that Scott has a production company -- he’s been there before with Arc Light Productions in NYC many moons ago (a theatre company), and I’ve been searching like crazy to find out the name of his production company in L.A. -- maybe we’ll find out real soon now. I have a question -- does an independent film mean that it could be considered -- if applied -- at the Sundance Festival? Man, I’d be making traveling plans for Park City or Ogden, Utah if that was the case – in a heartbeat. You see what that Repo audition has done to Scott?? Making him realize his dream as a singer. I’m excited for him for this opportunity – I’m thinking it’s a story about the trials and turmoils of a band just trying to get their song published. Anyone wishing to hear him sing “I’m Not Your Stepping Stone” or “Back in the U.S.S.R.”??? heehee A childhood dream realized???!!!???

5. Screenplays - 8 completed, 2 in development. I may need the paper in case I run out of fire wood) also.... trying to get the life story rights to one of my idols growing up. It's a film I want to direct, as well as write.

So, is he now a card carrying member of the WGA??? Screenplays – that means movies – and 2 in development, which means someone(s) are taking them seriously. Wow, the ideas in my head on what Scott wants to say to the masses. Just on the top of my head (and not in priority order): kickboxing, the environment, maybe politics of some sort – world event(s); something he’s passionate about, and there are soooo many of those, right? Could Darren Bousman have had an influence on him to pursue a screenplay or two – go for his dream? Darren has been talking about how Repo has been his passion for over 6 years. Scott has stated that he’s been writing/creating stories for a very long time – probably even before he became an actor – with the totally different environment of GG in the Spring of last year, his world just exploded with different color and ideas with the different people around him. I think it might have been their influence on him to pursue that part of him that has been quasi dormant during the GG years.

I’m really curious about the “life story rights to one of my idols growing up.” “Growing up”; that could mean as a small child or as a teenager. Small child, I’m thinking baseball and Sandy Koufax. Teenager – I’m thinking Patti Smith or maybe even Hendrix. I’m not sure if there’s been a movie made about Sandy Koufax’s life; and don’t think there’s been one made of Patti Smith – I do think there’s been one made of Jimi though. And I think it’s grand that he wants his movie directorial debut to be about an idol of his when he was growing up – again, something he’s passionate about.

6. Pilots - one completed and currently being read at a network. News coming.

Notice that the word “Pilots” is plural – there’s more than one in the making. What can we envision Scott writing about as a storyline for a tv series? Cop show? Hospital show? A comedy? If comedy, what’s the theme – sports? No way, I could easily bet, that it would be a type of reality show. I’d like to think it would be something unique, but I’m clueless at the moment. A sports show – many points-of-light there (the movie “Any Given Sunday” comes to mind). And I certainly hope that “…being read at a network” means NOT by the CW. I think that Scott has a strong and healthy relationship with the WB, who is out of the “network” business now, and is solely in the production/studio business – hence the CW taking over the network end of things. I wish him lots of success that one of the Big 3 have an interest in the Pilot that’s being looked at – maybe even HBO or Showtime, now that’s a thought – more free with language issues amongst other things.

7. Art - in process of moving to a new, bigger studio with tons of natural light! Also, considering building a website so that I can offer my work online.

This one absolutely floors me. Looks like Scott has been drawing/painting/sketching for a long time – not something new. He currently has a studio and now has secured a larger one with lots and lots of light. He seems to experience everything in life, not just read about it or watch a show on television or other type of media outlet – he lives it; wants to be a part of it. At first I could see him being a photographer – with all the beautiful places he’s been throughout his life, keeping a photo record of all the places – New Zealand, Italy, Ibiza, just to name a few – seemed the most likely. I no longer think that. I can easily see him using the canvas and lots and lots of color to settle himself down from long hours at the studio. I myself am not very creative – it’s very arduous for me to sit down and create, draw – I can follow directions real good, paint by numbers!! I’m very curious to peek at what it is he is inspired to put on paper/canvas. And we don’t know what the art is – I’m guessing it’s paintings, but sculpting, using plaster or some kind of metal welding work. Makes me wonder about that other posting in IMDb about Scott having a prehistoric petrified baby frog collection on loan to the Louvre in Paris. IMDb also says that Scott collects art, artifacts and rare writings. I can see him with rare books – he seems to be very astute in world history in all eras – the Renaissance period seems to be a favorite – his love of Shakespeare.

It is really comforting that this seems to be a moniker of his. He preaches peace, love and understanding. Wishes good things to everyone. He really is one of the most decent human beings on the planet, isn’t he? He makes everyone feel special.

These are just a few of my thoughts about Scott’s latest note. I’d love to read everyone else’s input. Should be interesting to pool all our ideas together and see what we envision is in Scott’s near future!! Most of all, huge kudos to him – talk about reaching for the stars!!!!
