So is this to show us that Jim really is the ass that Karen and Katy must think he is? That he is only dreamy to Pam and now that he has her, he's not capable of doing anything nice for anyone else? Okay, I'm being sorta sarcastic here, but I'm just having a hard time wrapping my mind around Jim the Bumbling Idiot.

i think it's to show that when jim tries to assume an authority role he messes up...plus he was nervous with a security guard, who he didn't tip or name he didn't know
while chatting up katy or karen he just talks and doesn't try
think back to office olympics...he wasn't trying to lead...he just wanted to goof around
