At least when last season we saw him reading on the beach with a sad expression, those 30 seconds showed us his emotional state. Scenes like Sawyer asking Ben if the Micheal on the freighter is the Micheal they all know, are really pointless for the character.

My ignorance concerning UK TV knows no limit, I've never watched any of the other shows in the list (assuming they're all UK shows - is Lost the only American show in the list?  )
