Not really. But I thought for sure I'd awaken one morning in a unicorn t-shirt, pig-tails and feeling a serious need to listen to some Gwen Stefani (picture that, friends!) based on everything I've been doing to prep for my set visit to Summit Entertainment's Twilight. What does that entail? Sifting through countless blogs dedicated to the Stephenie Meyer book, reading the book, talking to fans, trying to understand the fans, sitting in a room, staring at a wall, not seeing the wall, looking past the wall... Ahem, well, I'm back now and all I've got to say is...
...this movie's going to be huge. The producers know it. The director knows it. I'm not sure if the actors quite grasp what they've gotten themselves into. Dismiss it all you want, but when I arrived on set in Portland, Oregon, I was told fans were camped outside the film's high school location the night before wrapped in blankets. Portland is colder than a witch's tit now, so that's some damn commitment right there. Later in the day, I fell witness to the return of said Twilight disciples. One teen male fan boasted, "I've read all the books...and I'm not a mom!"
I must admit to being somewhat thrilled by the fact that they were shooting a scene I recognized from the book (I'm not done with the read yet, but I will be soon). But let's make this clear - the film is for an audience that doesn't really include me. Look at the ingredients: Teens. Love. Vampire love. Drama. Heartbreak.
Still, I'm mildly fascinated by what makes this thing called Twilight tick - so I forge ahead with the coverage. Anyway, that's where I've been the past day. I'm tired. Cold. And in a hotel room that's bigger than most apartments I've seen in L.A. Seriously, this joint's got a living room, a bedroom and bathroom. Insane.
