Sun is a big girl and only Sun is responsible for her actions and thoughts. If someone told Sun to jump off a cliff and Sun did so out of her own free will just because she was told to. And Kate is Sun's friend and Kate cares about her, she wouldn't let any bias get in the way of her helping Sun. Obviously if Kate thought she was putting Sun in danger she would stop. Also their motivations were not about not trusting Juliet, they were about not trusting the freighties. Plus if the don't think the freighties are gonna rescue them anyway, what's the point of staying at the beach to get rescued. Juliet obviously has more faith in the freighties than Kate and Sun.
