I guess that depends on who they are, and who the people giving them a chance are.

When I see people going to jail, I generally want one of two outcomes. Either for them to never be released, or for them to come out reformed and rehabilitated. The former is vastly preferable, but the latter is better than nothing if it's all you can hope to get. But I guess on some level, the question is, what's the point? If nobody will accept that you've changed, if nobody will give you a chance and allow you to prove yourself, did changing for the better really get you anywhere? With someone like Dan, I could see him reverting to past behaviour if he realises that trying to be a good guy hasn't made any real difference.
