I think she sent him a question (maybe about a spoiler we still don't know about) and he gave the right answer.
I have no idea who the shooting could be for.
"He" could be some third man, maybe Daniel or that other, older guy?

The only thing that makes sense now is Skaters are unhappy because Sawyer goes with Team Locke and Kate goes with Team Jack. Wives and girlfriends are happy because there's a baby confirmation OR some man does something chivalrous. And Jaters are not mentioned because nothing in particular happens pro/con for them.
