And yes, the backstory was important. The thing with Clemente, especially, as I believe they were talking about the drugs. It appears to have taken place after their scene at Admit where Ray wouldn't present to him and Clemente gave him the 'I am your attending and you will respect me' speech. And Ray got insulted because Clemente was all 'You're in a band, you know how it is.' Like just because he's in a band, he's into drugs too. Ray said 'Actually I don't.' and was so pissed off. The deleted scene expands on that and it gave me a fic bunny to try and incorporate into this epic (still planning out ch. 9 before I can get back to work on writing it). And a few other independent ideas to try and bash out.  I so wish they'd left it in.
