nice theory Ozge! I too think that the Losties are not allowed to see each other.I have no idea how things will play out but Banshee wrote a beautiful post and I kinda agree with her. here:

Quote:
I think this season in particular has gone far to underscore that Kate may have a connection w/Sawyer but "it is different from the emotional bond she shares with Jack". Mentioning again the walkie talkie scene which I think was a blatant wink to that very thing.

Precedented in the Moth/HM bits, they continue to tease w/JK (i.e. leave the audience wanting more), by keeping the culmination of their romantic relationship just out of the audience's reach. 1step forward, 2 back ..Which is typical story arch for any show in design of stalling the OTP as long as possible. Writers are conscious that leaving something to the imagination is a powerful tool-as supported by Damon's comments about Moonlighting.

As an aside, the main argument against Jate back in the day, was that they were too obvious & therefore predictable/uninteresting. But I think the writers have cleverly turned the tables, making Jate the underdog in order to dispel the cliches about their pairing & reinvest the audience in wanting them to prevail. They don't want the audience not to be interested in the relationship of the main protagonists carrying the story through to the end. And I think it's clear from the TMFT promo, since no ship has ever gotten their own television spot, that TPTB are aware a lot of audience most certainly wants Jate.

Digressing to continuity, the last Moth piece re:leaving the island ties in with the final finale scene...In MOTH, it's heavily implied, both through onscreen subtext & script, that the prospect of getting off the island is disappointing to J/K. They know they will have to go their separate ways and likely will not be able to be together because of a reason independent from their personal feelings. The moment is impregnated with a sort of dread, but it's left unsaid, & open ended-to be continued...

Now in the finale they have gotten off, & the prophecy has come true. As per the Lost Mag TTLG script, Kate is trying to convince herself it was the right thing to do. But despite her attempts to remain detached, we see cracks in the facod that she is visibly affected by her estrangement from Jack. Adding that just like in the Moth scene, he verbalizes their fears and melancholy in foil to her efforted stoicism "We're one step closer to getting off the island/We made a mistake"....They may be manifesting themselves differently, but they're both miserable.

I think we were supposed to get the feeling that whatever caused them to part, goes beyond anything personal and into the circumstantial/mythological. Especially given the dramatic irony and parallels I hopefully drew above b/w the finale/MOTH.

I'm in agreement with others that Jate was intimate before the FF...And I think it will be several weeks yet before the Losties actually leave the island. So imo it's possible that Jate happens in that missing pocket of time.

I'm imaging the FB's/FF's to head toward each other like speeding trains on the timeline until they meet in the middle. When the show comes back, I think we'll have more obstacle but it will eventually build up to JK getting together on the island in the FB's. Then they'll be forced to separate (TTLG FF), while future Jack/Kate finally find their way back to the island at which point time converges ...Catch being that like Des, they don't forget the past or the future, & for all intents and purposes are emotionally apart again if not physically...Now we pick up from there and go forward, so J/K have to work to find their way back to each other...I think it's an ideal scenario, in keeping with the 1 step forward 2 back principle, to ensure the audience at large is still rooting for them. Not to mention from a writing perpective, it provides a lot of avenues for drama/suspense which is the name of the game.
