Ryan and Marissa had so much potential for interesting stories. Trey was a pretty interesting one; I loved that storyline and the payoff in the finale showed how strong they were as a couple. I was really pissed when the writers squandered all that on Johnny, Sadie, and Volchok. I really wish I knew what the hell Josh was thinking.
| I suspect I may never get over the hate I have of how he DID squandered it for the three randoms. Trey was an amazing arc and should have represented the turning point for RM. Up till The End of Innocence and even the Last Waltz, I almost believed it.
I continue to be amazed at how Josh did not take an arc so obvious for RM in S3 i.e dealing with Trey. I feel like if I think of it too much, I want to bash his head against a wall because for FFS, even if he couldn't have them deal with Trey, at least write them differently from the psycho obsessed with Marissa plot and Ryan moving on with slutty randoms
I read a really really good RM fic that dealt with Trey on the Fox boards before - Through the Rain - instead of repeating the Marissa gets distracted with another random plot , the writer had Ryan avoid the issue and turn to help the antagonist because in his subsconscious, he was helping her in the way he couldn't with Marissa. It was good because it showed Ryan being in the wrong FOR A CHANGE.
I swear any given fan fic writer writes RM better than the professional Joshallegedly was. |
