It doesn't make a lot of sense that Bernard decided to follow them again, but if I go for the other speculation (the scene in TV Guide happening before the two groups reunite), I'm left with an even bigger question: how did Locke manage to reach the beach group so fast?

Poor Bernard. He just tags along. 
Very few things involving Locke make sense so him being with the beach group is no exception.
Maybe all those actors whose names he heard weren't even in the same scene.
Kate could've been comforting Claire for example.
