Welcome to the board Michelle.

As for the avatar, do this:

- Go to User CP (first tab up in the left corner of the page)
- On left hand side there is Settings & Options. Under that there are a bunch of 'Edit' links... the very last one is 'Edit Avatar' click that and follow the instructions, it should work. If you still are having trouble, feel free to send me a PM.
