| Those are very good and well thought out points Karen.  In some ways the characters regressed in the finale or they didn't progress at all. Though I honestly don't think that Dawson would ever lose that optimistic/hopeful/idealistic part of his personality. He had moments of cynisism but I don't think he could be hardened by Hollywood. Maybe a little sharper around the edges, but he went through some things that should have in all respects changed him into a harder person but it never happened. That's just my take on it though. Like you said Karen there were SO many blanks in the finale that it's hard to say. But with all that said I don't think Dawson would take up smoking...but in the world of fic it's entirely possible. I think that'd just be up to the writer's point of view.
