| That is so true. I am glad that you mentioned that because that is a good point. That bugs me so much when people talk about wanting to go to school but they don't want to in financial payback for the rest of their life. I feel like saying "hello that is a part of life". That really bugs me when people say that. I was fortunate enough that my parents pay for my education. But, my dad pointed that I would have to pay for half of my law school tutition when the times comes. And I respect that because his dad did the same thing. And, I will be filing for grants, loans, and any possible financial aid I can get. Paying it back isn't the end all, you know?
That is a part I heard about Moore's movie (which I didn't see nor will I) but that he goes around with a marine that doesn't want to go Iraq. Moore makes this big case, like you pointed out, that the military recruits these poorer kids. Well, just because a kid is poor doesn't mean the military is the only option. But, the military does provide good benefits and college opportunities that helps out those with less money. The thing that bugged me about some of the military that was called to duty was their complaints about not thinking they would have to go to battle. Which I mean I can understand going into a war is a very scary thing but you signed up for the military. College was the second option provided by your military enlistment - not the other way around.
Did anyone catch Kerry's speech last night at the DNC? I caught a bit of it before it was muted. It amazed me how he talked about the troops and wanting to protect them and help them if he were elected. But, didn't he vote for the war but against the 80 billion dollar bill to give the troops more supplies ? |
