I totally agree with you. But people jump right back and say they join because they are poor and do it for the college benefits.

Well you know what, I have $15K in loans that I AM PAYING BACK (not my parents)...AND I just finished my FIRST YEAR! I took out another $8K in loans for this upcoming year! I am by no means weatthy. My parents have no money and aren't helping me pay for college in any way.

It's as if these people think that the only way you can pay for college is (a) your parents pay for you or (b) you join the military. Did we completely forget about financial aid, part time jobs, loans?

I have a lot of respect for people who join the military. It can't be an easy decision, but there is a risk you take when you join - and that is the fact that you could be sent to combat.
