Well considering this franchise doesn't lower itself to fast food restaurants or vechicle tie-ins like the Spiderman, Shrek and countless others have done where they contributes to problems with obsesity and mass-consumerism in our society, I'd say this is still new venture isn't quite the same.

From the beginning Jo wanted her creation to stay clear of those marketing ploys and so far they've done a good job of it. We have toys and games and clothing (costume) lines but nothing like what their competition has done. The books are really all we need for a product selling a sucessful franchise.

As far as the theme park goes, it's the 'experience of the Potterverse' that they're really cashing in on. I'm going for the rides and to get the feeling of what it would be like to step into that magical world. The films actual production designer is taking all the set treatments and applying it to the park's environment. That in itself is so cool. Most of us will never get the chance to visit the set but this will be the next best thing.

If Theme Parks were as big in the UK or Europe as they are over here in NA I'm sure they would have done it there but it just didn't work out that way.
