| An updated episode 7.19 summary: Quote: Episode 7.19: It's Just Like Riding a Bike
Air date: 24 April 2007
Written by: Jennie Snyder
Directed by: Lee Shallat Chemel
This title refers to the Murphy Brown episode 'It's just like riding a bike'. In this episode Peter returns to town and he and Murphy pick up right where they left off.
─ Lorelai resolves to return to her real, pre-EIF life - and part of that is going into the diner. She stops into Luke’s diner for breakfast for the first time since their break-up, with all eyes on her and comments from Kirk, but finds they are awkward and uncomfortable together.
- The Promo showed Lorelai entering the diner. Lorelai sits down and says "Hey," to Luke, and he asks, "How's it going?" They're smiling. Then it shows her looking more sad, with a questioning look, still in the diner.
- Lorelai hesitates before going in, then takes a deep breath and does it. Kirk tells her she can't have her old stool back, he's claimed it. Babette and Miss Patty are there, and do a double-take when she walks in. Very awkward between Luke and Lorelai; he asks if she wants coffee, and gives her a completely different mug. He asks how she is, and vice versa, and they talk about the inn, the diner(or him, actually) and the weather. They both look uncomfortable, so she decides to take her coffee and go back to work. Quote:
LUKE'S DINER
[Lorelai waits for a minuter outside before entering, Babette and Miss Patty are surprised to see Lorelai.]
LORELAI: Hey [To Kirk as she sits at the counter]
KIRK: Well, well, well I always suspected this day would come.
LORELAI: Hi Kirk.
KIRK: You’re not getting this seat.
LORELAI: Hu?
KIRK: You can’t it’s mine now. And frankly I can see why you hogged it for so long.
LORELAI: What?
KIRK: It’s clearly the best stool in the joint. Close to the cash register and the kitchen, which guarantees plenty of face time with the boss. Climate wise it’s positioned between two air-conditioning vents which creates a nice cross ventilation…
LORELAI: Hey Kirk…
KIRK: …never.
LORELAI: You can have the seat. Hey [To Luke]
LUKE: Hey. [awkward pause] Coffee?
LORELAI: Yes please.
LUKE: Alright, ah to stay or to go?
LORELAI: Um… To stay.
LUKE: Good, okay.
MISS PATTY: Lorelai.
BABETTE: Hi ya doll.
LORELAI: Hey.
MISS PATTY: It’s so nice seeing you back in here.
LORELAI: Thanks.
BABETTE: Been a long time.
LORELAI: Yah.
BABETTE: What 9 or 10 months.
LORELAI: Something like that.
KIRK: Actually I can tell you exactly when Lorelai was in her last ‘cause I marked it in my calendar. [Looks it up] May 22, 2006, stool available question mark, it’s important to…
LUKE: Enough Kirk, here you go.
LORELAI: Thank you. [exhales] So hows it going?
LORELAI: Oh really well. They Inn is really busy.
LUKE: Yeah I’ll bet.
LORELAI: And so how are you doing.
LUKE: Me, good, really good.
[still awkward between them]
LORELAI: Good.
LUKE: Yeah.
LORELAI: Um, it sure is warm outside.
LUKE: Yeah you know when I opened the diner this morning I remember thinking how warm it was.
LORELAI: Really!
LUKE: Yeah.
LORELAI: You know what maybe I should take this to go. To get back to work.
LUKE: Yeah okay let me just get you a cup.
LORELAI: It’s been really busy at the Inn.
LUKE: Yeah you said, there you go.
[Lorelai pours the coffee into the to go cup and Luke puts a lid on it.]
LORELAI: Oh great.
[Lorelai gets money to pay]
LUKE: Ah no I got it.
LORELAI: Thanks.
LUKE: Okay so I’ll see you around.
LORELAI: Definitely, I’ll see you around. Okay.
[Lorelai leaves]
LORELAI: Bye.
MISS PATTY: Bye.
| - She breathes a sigh of relief after she walks out too.
- Then they show Sookie saying, "You're talking to him, you're friends again," in the DFI kitchen. Lorelai responds by saying that "We're sorta friends, we have a long way to go." Then Lorelai says to Sookie, "I don't know where to start..."
- Soon after stopping into the diner for the first time since the breakup, , Lorelai’s Jeep breaks down and Lorelai asks Luke to go with her while she shops for a new car. And he agrees to take her.
- Before, Lorelai is riding a bike. Scene: Lorelai cheerfully riding on her bike with the headset of her cell phone in her ear (as seen in the CW promo).
- Lorelai is happy Luke agrees to take her car shopping, but the trip to the dealership is awkward.
- While they look at cars, Lorelai and Luke's irritation with one another finally explodes into a big fight, which Lorelai secretly takes as a good sign. Lorelai thinks it's a good thing. The one in 7.18 is a rather calm conversation. 7.19 is when they let out their annoyances (they have an argument).
- Scene: Luke and Lorelai in an open car lot. Luke is following her as she walks up to a car and opens the driver side door. Fades to Lorelai sitting at the wheel in her jeep listening to Luke.
- Luke: [Luke is standing beside the driver’s window arms stretched out wide as he rants to Lorelai] You don’t buy a car based on a feeling.
- Scene: Luke and Lorelai on the road driving in Luke’s truck. They are both smiling. Fades to close ups of Lorelai’s and Luke’s faces. They seem uneasy with each other.
- Lorelai: [standing in the car lot beside a car talking on her cell phone while Luke is walking around in the background away from her scratching his head and looking up]You know how Jack Bauer should torture terrorists? Make them …. go car shopping with their EXes.
- Luke: [close up of Luke standing in the car lot talking to Lorelai in exasperation. Part of the back of Lorelai’s head is in the frame] Are you going to buy a car or not.
- Lorelai: [Doing the little hair flippy thing with her left hand as she makes a big show of pondering the question. Then with child-like body flouncing attitude, gives him a kind of sexy, provoking look] Tsk, Not!
- This fight between Luke and Lorelai doesn’t result in them officially getting back together, but the end result is definitely positive.
- New car is a Blue Chrysler Aspen with DFI sign (???)
- Jackson stays at Lorelai's house for at least one night. (I don't know the whole story behind this). The scene they were shooting took place in Lorelai's living room and involved Sookie, Jackson and Paul Anka. Jackson telling Sookie that he broke the dollhouse. The doll house really is destroyed. Jackson tells Sookie he was just picking it up to see what the support system was like so he could make one for Martha. In doing so he drops it because it's heavier then he thought. They argue back and forth some. Jackson thinks the real reason Sookie is mad is because he lied to her and got her pregnant. Sookie states that she is happy about the baby but Jackson points out that it's not the same as forgiving him. Sookie eventually admits that she is just overwhelmed and worried about having a third child. They end the scene on a happy note.
- Lorelai on the DFI porch, with on her cellphone, saying, "Luke, it's Lorelai."
- They were filming inside Sookies also.
- And the chuppah was moved over to the side of the yard where it is supposed to be.
- Rory and Paris make plans for life after Yale. Meanwhile, Paris gets accepted to numerous law schools and medical schools, and decides she must break up with Doyle so their relationship won't influence her choice of a graduate school. Paris breaks up with Doyle and later misses him.
- Finally, Rory gets a surprising letter that will impact her future plans.
- Who for sure will appear in the episode: Lorelai, Rory, Luke, Sookie, Michel, Paris, Jackson, Kirk, Miss Patty, Babette, Paul Anka, Doyle - He is at least talked about.
