"More Grey Days for Meredith. It's been a tough year for Meredith Grey, and it's only going to get tougher when someone close to her dies on May 3. That's the Grey's Anatomy episode that sets up a potential spin-off for Addison (KW), but Meredith (EP) is still the lead of the show and producers haven't forgotten about her.
After the death of her mother and nearly drowning, Meredith will once again face tragedy and spiral down into that "dark and twisty" place she knows so well. "We joke that we like to kick Meredith and then kick her again," says Grey's writer Stacy McKee.
And Meredith was just lightening up, even starting to warm up to her stepmother, Susan (Mare Winningham). Susan is "a beacon of hope" for Meredith and the other SGH interns, McKee says. "They're all thirsty for a caring and thoughtful mother who doesn't boss them around." (Speaking of bossy mothers, Cristina's and Burke's moms return May 3rd to plan the big wedding).
To make matters worse, in the May 17th Meredith will face another "dark twist," McKee teases. "Many things will force her to question her loyalties."
