As for Lorelai sleeping with Chris and hooking up so quickly, remember Lorelai said herself (I think it was to Digger) that her family represses and uses the feelings as a weapon. She represses things too. I think she repressed her feelings for Luke and channeled her longing for a married life with him to Chris. She knew Chris wanted her and she wanted to be wanted.
