That's where it comes from, and the fact that in 18 he's with Rory in Stars Hollow bonding with Lorelai. I don't expect anything to be alluded to in episode descriptions.

While you can think of them what you like, I found the romantic relationship of Lorelai & Luke to be tedious, and uninteresting, to each their own, that's why there are different characters, ships and such. Rory & Logan along with Emily & Richard are my cup of tea, L/L haven't been.  But there's obviously not an engagement in 16. If it happens it would be at the end of 17. 18 is in Stars Hollow. The earliest anything Gilmorian/Huntzberger related would happen is 19. Which frankly is almost the end of the season.
