| Quote: | I have to disagree. I think Lorelai's always tried to seek her parent's approval and involvement in her own ways, and that's why she had her rant to Emily about Max and why she was so happy when they accepted Luke. | She didn't even introduce Max to Emily till after Emily had reacted badly to finding out she was getting married. She pointedly kept her parents from knowing about her relationship with Jason. She didn't want them to know about her dating Luke, and didn't want to even have him remeet them. While keeping the engagement from them seems natural, due to the rift. She also didn't bother to even tell them when the wedding was going to be, nor even if they would be invited, till Emily asked.
Unlike Rory who freely told Emily & Richard about Dean, Jess, Dean again & Logan.
Lorelai might want their approval, but on her terms, her timing. Not freely, as Rory's been inclined to do. And while she might want their approval, and love the bits of it she's gotten, part of the reason she hasn't gotten it very often is because she shuts them out of her life for the most part, and that hasn't changed. The only reason it's different with Chris is Emily & Richard have their own relationship with him. |
