If Lorelai doesn't wear the ring to FND, it might be possible that Emily notices, but not say anything. She could be compassionate (since she said "blood is thicker than water") and wait until Lorelai comes to her. Emily is already aware that LC are having problems and I'm doubting it will surprise her when Lorelai tells her they split. Or Emily could say something like "Where is your wedding band?" and Lorelai could pull a Rory and say that it was giving her a rash and she had to take it off. Oddly enough, if you watch the scene with Rory/Lorelai in the room with Richard, she is scratching at it. Anyway, and then when Lorelai does tell her the marriage is over Emily could say "Yes, I've known. I was just waiting for the official word from you. I'm really sorry, Lorelai.
