I look at it this way. Lorelai wants to want Chris. She married him. He's Rory's father. Emily and Richard are completely happy that she and Chris are married. If she wants Chris, she pleases Rory, Emily, Richard. She gives them all the perfect family everyone seems to have wanted for so long. She wants to be in that picture because the picture she created for herself - of a life with Luke - isn't one she thinks she can have anymore. I think we're still supposed to think that Lorelai thinks Luke doesn't love her anymore. So even though she has feelings for Luke, it doesn't really matter because Luke doesn't love her. And if the only problem in her marriage is that she has residual feelings for Luke, if she was also in love with Chris, they could get past it.

The only problem is that she doesn't love Chris and she doesn't want Chris. She wants it because it makes life so much easier. But it will never work because even though she wants to want it, she actually doesn't. This is the first time that I haven't despised Lorelai for quite some time, so this post is quite a breakthrough for me!
