Right now, Luke's the past. Just like Chris was in S5. Just like in WBB, she still loved Chris, but that love wasn't *active*. She loves Luke still, but it's latent, not *active* she's concentrating on her love for Chris.
I believe that Lorelai loved Christopher and during her marriage with him her love for him deepened. It’s difficult for a woman to be in an intimate and committed relationship with a man and not bond emotionally with him.

Is the love that she feels for Christopher comparable with what she feels for Luke? I don’t think so. Thinking that Luke no longer loved her, she committed herself to Christopher and really tried to make her marriage work. She was happy and content with her marriage and Christopher as long as she didn’t allow herself to question her feelings for Luke. She tried to maintain some distance between herself and Luke and seemed awkward around him the few times they met. Maintaining her distance made it possible for her to continue denying her feelings for him.

In the kitchen scene with Christopher, I saw a woman who was torn between the fear of losing something she desperately wanted to work (her marriage) and knowing that Christopher was correct in what he was saying. Lorelai’s desperation for her marriage to work stemmed from her not wanting to: fail at another relationship, disappoint her parents and be old and alone. I think this conflict caused her not to push harder to stop Christopher from leaving.

Looking at Loreali’s facial expression and body language when Christopher confronted her about her feeling for Luke, she didn’t look him in the eyes and shifted around a bit. At the point when Christopher told her that he knew she was not done with Luke, she briefly looked away from him. When he told her that Luke was the reason she didn’t want to have a baby with him, she looked away again. When she quickly reiterated after him that she was not in love with Luke, she blinked.

Christopher witnessed her reactions and discomfort and instantly knew that she was lying. She also knew that what Christopher said was true but she couldn’t admit it to him because of the damage that it would cause to her marriage. Even though she tried to convince him that he was wrong, she didn’t act like she believed it herself (IMO) and so he didn’t believe her.

When Christopher walked out on her, she didn’t run after him pleading for him to stay. She halfhearted called his name after he closed the door and couldn’t hear her. She remained standing in the kitchen and let him go. She didn’t break down and cry when he left, she only looked sad. The next morning, she was still sad and obviously missed him but she was not devastated to the point that she was bedridden. I think part of her eagerness to answer the phone and disappointment when it wasn’t Christopher was that she was worried about his safety knowing how upset he was when he walked out of the house the night before.

Sure Lorelai loves Christopher and sure she’s upset and sad that he left but deep down inside she also knows that what she feels for him is not enough to sustain their marriage for the rest of their lives.
