SHE dumped Luke. She was not dumped by Luke, nor did he cheat on her, beat on her, ignore her or give her any other reason for her to dump him. She thought about it for a couple of days and even talked to Dr Lynnie. Conversely, she wouldn't give Luke even 5 minutes to think things through. Luke was simply a nonfactor in the events--as was shown the next day when he acceeded to ALL of Lorelai's terms except decide in 10 seconds or less.
From Lorelai's perspective there should have been nothing heartbreaking about the breakup--SHE orchestrated it at the time of HER choosing in the manner SHE selected.
There should have been no "pained and fragile state" on Lorelai's side: everything was HER doing, when SHE chose to it, in the manner SHE wanted things done. Including HER deciding to go to Chris's house.
No one took advantage of Lorelai in "Partings," SHE called all the shots. And based on how she treated Luke, probably giving Chris little/no time to decide.
BTW, Luke didn't give Lorelai up after she dumped him: he showed up at her house ready to marry her. Not different from Chris.
