| Real World hits Sydney
One of the longest-running reality shows ever is heading to Australian shores.
MTV has announced that the 19th season of The Real World, a reality series that premiered in 1992, will be shot in Sydney in the first quarter of 2007. "The rich, dynamic culture of Sydney is the perfect backdrop for a new season that will undoubtedly satisfy [The Real World's] loyal fanbase as well as attract legions of new viewers," said MTV executive Lois Curren.
"We are extremely thrilled to be bringing the show to Australia for its 19th season," said Real World co-creator Jon Murray. "Australians are fun-loving people who love to party, so The Real World cast should feel right at home."
Each season The Real World follows a different group of strangers from varying backgrounds who share a house for several weeks.
During this time they are followed by cameras in the house, when they venture outdoors and when they go to work.
Sydney is not the show's first international destination.
Previous seasons have been filmed in London and Paris.
Murray told the New York Post the housemates will live within walking distance to Sydney icons such as the Harbour Bridge and Opera House.
Unfortunately for aspiring Australian TV stars, only Americans are eligible to apply for the series - though some lucky locals may score background roles. Season 19 is slated to premiere in the US in late 2007. |
