I was thinking about Lorelai's proposal to Luke and to how she explained it to the shrink.
She said she knew all that about Luke since the beginning - that he is a real man, solid, protecting her and he gets her yadda yadda yadda. But when she saw how much he cared for Rory, then she knew she wanted to marry him.
In 7.13 we'll see her in the hospital, worried about Richard. We'll also see Rory, scared to lose her beloved grandpa, consoled by Logan but not by her father. I can see Lorelai be mad at Chris not because he left her alone - she's used to that - but because he wasn't there for his daughter when she needed him the most. In Forgiveness and Stuff Chris wasn't around, but that was normal, since he wasn't into their lives. Now they are a family - at least temporarily - and seeing Rory stood by her father - although not intentionally probably - will open her eyes.
I'm not saying this is gonna be the reason to break up, but I'm pretty sure it will be a part - even a small one, but still - in Lorelai's decision. | Coming directly after having written a reference letter for Luke outlining all his fatherly "qualities" (not to be misunderstood as me saying he's a good dad to Rory) and her argument with Christopher over said letter, the bold parts above are even more relevant to Lorelai and fresh in her mind. By Luke doing all the things she mentions, he was also being a support [indirectly] to Lorelai.
Lorelai is probably not thinking that Christopher knows that her father is ill, she’s thinking that Christopher is not there again to support his daughter [indirectly herself] when he’s needed the most even after their silly fight over the same issue.
And yes as you've mentioned this will be one of the contributing factors in her decision to leave Christopher. |
