…{Because their love had so much potential}… Their Meet-Cute: Hail Mary Tristan: Hey, Mary. Hey, Mary. Rory: Me? Tristan: Yeah, you. Rory: My name is Rory. Tristan: I'm Tristan. Rory: Hi. Tristan: So, you're new? Rory: Yeah, first day. Tristan: Well, Remmy's class is rough. Rory: Yeah, it seemed very intense. Tristan: You know, I could loan you my notes if that would help. Rory: Really? That'd be great. Tristan: Yeah? How great? Rory: I don't know. Mr. Remmy said that getting someone's notes would be. . . Tristan: I could even help you study if you want. Rory: Um, I kind of view studying as a solitary activity, but thanks. Tristan: Bye, Mary. Rory: It's Rory. He Makes Her Nervous Tristan: Hey Mary. Rory: And it just keeps getting better. Tristan: Oh you look sad. Rory: I’m fine. Tristan: Bad grade? Rory: I have to go. Tristan: You know what Mary, see I can’t figure out why we’re not friends. I think it’s because I make you nervous. Rory: I think it’s because you can’t learn my name. Tristan: Do you have a boyfriend? Rory: None of your business. Tristan: Is that a ‘no’? Rory: Is there no one else at this school you can bother? Tristan: See, I think you like me, you just don’t know how to say it. Rory: Oh boy. Tristan: What are you doing Friday night? Rory: I’m busy. Tristan: What, you gotta be back at the convent by 5. Rory: Please leave me alone. Tristan: Well...since you said please. Later...Mary. His Girl Friday Tristan: Hey. Rory: What, Tristin? Tristan: I just wanted to say 'happy birthday.' Rory: It's not my birthday. Tristan: No, but it will be. 'On Friday at 4:03 in the morning, Lorelai Leigh --' Rory: What is that? Who else got these? Tristan: I don't know. Everyone in our class, I think. Rory: I have to go. Tristan: I'll see you Friday, birthday girl. The Birthday Kiss Tristan: Oh, coming to greet me? Rory: Hello, Tristin. Tristan: So where's my birthday kiss? Rory: It's my birthday. Tristan: So I'll give you a birthday kiss. Rory: What is wrong with you? Tristan: Ok, I gotta tell you something. I'm madly in love with you. Rory: Well, good luck with that. Tristan: I can't eat, I can't sleep...I wake up in the middle of the night calling your name. Rory, Rory! Rory: Would you shut up please? The Walk Tristan: He likes me. Rory: He's drunk. Tristan: Let's take a walk. Rory: This is stuipd. you don't even like me! You just have this weird need to prove that I'll go out with you. That's not liking someone. Tristan: Why are you fighting this? You're gonna give in eventually. Rory: I'm going to go find my mother. Tristan: Wow, meeting your mom. It's a bit sudden, but OK. Date Or No Date Tristan: And she's reading again. How novel. Rory: Good-bye, Tristin. Tristan: Did you get the novel thing? Because... Rory: I said good-bye. Tristan: What are you doing here? Rory: I like lines. Tristan: The guy's supposed to buy the tickets. Rory: Really. Does Susan Faludi know about this? Tristan: Unless of course there is no guy. Rory: There's a guy. Tristan: A cheap guy. Rory: Well, what can I say? I like 'em cheap. Sloppy too -- bald spot, beer gut, you know, and the pants that kind of slip down in the back, giving you that good plumber shot. That sends me through the roof. Tristan: So who is he? Rory: How many languages can you say 'none of your business' in. Tristan: Does he go to this school? Rory: No, he doesn't. Tristan: Uh-huh. Well, look, OK, I'll confess something to you. I don't have a date. Rory: Well I hear Squeaky Fromme is up for parole soon. You should keep a good thought. Tristan: Well I actually thought you'd like to go with me. Rory: You did not. Tristan: I did too. Rory: You did not because you are not stupid. Tristan: Why thank you. Rory: Slimy and weasely, yes, but stupid, no. You'd have to be stupid to think that, given our history, I would ever, barring a piano or a safe falling on my head, want to go anywhere with you, ever. Tristan: OK, fine. I'll take Cissy. Rory: I'll send her a condolence card. Tristan: Yeah. Well at least she won't be buying her own ticket. The "Hey, How's It Going" Rory: Hey, what's going on? Tristan: Nothing. Just getting to know your boyfriend here. Dean: It's going really well, don't you think? Tristan: Oh yeah. We're just about to build a clubhouse. Rory: OK. Well I hate to break up the party, but we should go. The "I Know What You're Doing" Rory: Let me try first. Hey, could you two just move this whole thing down to the left a little? Tristan: What? Rory: You're standing in front of the lockers. Paris: Our lockers. Tristan: Oh sorry. Just got a little carried away. Rory: Right. Rory "The" Confused Rory: Oh sorry. Tristan: No problem. Rory: I’m sorry. Tristan: About what? Rory: About you and Summer. Tristan: I don’t want to talk about Summer. Rory: Ok. How’d you do on that biology test? Tristan: What? Rory: The test. It was hard wasn’t it? Tristan: Yeah it was hard. Rory: I got a B+ Tristan: What are you doing? Rory: Talking about the test. Tristan: Why? Rory: Because you said you didn’t want to talk about Summer. Tristan: I don’t. Rory: Ok, so I moved to biology. Sorry did you want to talk about spanish? Tristan "The" Rejected Tristan: You just loved it, didn’t you? Rory: Loved what? Tristan: Seeing me get nailed like that. Must have been a great moment. Rory: Not really. Tristan: Please. You loved it, she loved it, everybody loved it. Rory: I did not love it. Tristan: I really liked her too. Rory: Yeah I know. Tristan: So where’s your boyfriend tonight? Rory: He’s...not my boyfriend anymore. Tristan: Why not? Rory: He didn’t want to be. Tristan: Idiot. Rory: So’s Summer. Tristan: You think you’ll get back together? Rory: He was pretty set in his decision. Tristan: When did it happen? Rory: Yesterday. Tristan: Wow. Rory: It was our three month anniversary. Tristan: That sucks. The Kiss Rory: Yeah it does suck. Do you think you guys will? Tristan: No, no. No, no, no, no, no. Rory: So no? Tristan: No. Hey, I’m sorry I gave you such a hard time for a while. Rory: Oh that’s ok. Tristan: It is? Rory: Well no, but you’re sad. Tristan: Yeah well. I am sorry. Rory: I accept your apology. Tristan: Oh man, it’s a great party huh? Rory: Yeah not bad. It gave me a chance to catch up on my reading. Tristan: You are very odd, you know that? Rory: Thank you. Tristan: You’re welcome. I’m sorry, what did I do? Did I bite your lip or something? Rory: No it’s not you. It’s just - I have to go. Potential Marx Brothers Moment Rory: Bye. Tristan: Uh...you left this. Rory: Oh yeah I did. Thanks. Tristan: Sure. Rory: Well, that could have been a potential Marx Brothers moment. Tristan: You go first. Rory: Ok. I think we need to talk. Tristan: About what? Rory: Tristin you know about what? Tristan: No I don’t. Rory: Look, we have a lot of work ahead of us. We also have about two and a half years of being in the same school. I don’t want things to be weird between us. Don’t you think it’d be good to at least try to talk about this? Tristan: Ok. Rory: Good. I’m gonna go first. Tristan: Right. The "We're Supposed To Talk" Tristan: So we’re supposed to talk. Rory: Yeah. Look about the other night. Tristan: Look, I was upset over Summer. Rory: Yes and I was upset over Dean. Tristan: So, then it doesn’t mean anything right? Rory: Right. Tristan: So then - right, so then that’s it. We just chalk it up to a bad night. Rory: Ok. I’m sorry I cried. Tristan: No problem. Rory: I swear it had nothing to do with the kiss. Tristan: I kissed you, you cried. That had to do something with the kiss. Rory: No, I cried because I was confused. Because I hadn’t cried. I didn’t cry because of the kiss. It was a nice kiss. Tristan: Yeah? Rory: Very nice. Not at all crying material. Tristan: Really? Rory: Absolutely. Tristan: Wanna try it again? Recovering From A Heartbreak Rory: Well I think someone’s recovering from their heartbreak just fine. Tristan: Yeah I’m all better. I think I’m going to swear off girls for a while. Rory: Ha! Tristan: What? Rory: Uh, sorry, nothing. You said you were going to swear off girls - it’s funny. Tristan: You don’t think I can? Rory: No I think you can, I just think it would be hard for you. It’d probably involve some kind of lock up facility, one of those Hannibal Lector masks. Tristan: Ok yes, it would be hard but not impossible.
Rory: Maybe it’s not so much swearing off all girls but swearing off a certain kind of girl. Tristan: Meaning? Rory: Meaning next time maybe you should pick a girl with a little more substance. You know, a girl who’s smart and is driven and has ambition. You know like Paris. Tristan: Are you serious? Rory: Yeah why not? Paris is smart and cute and interesting and yes she does bring her own unique set of baggage into the mix. Tristan: A matching set. Rory: But she likes you. She’s crazy about you. She thinks you’re amazing. Tristan: You want me to date Paris? Rory: Just think about it. Tristan: Me and Paris. Beginning Of A Wonderful Friendship Rory: Louis, I think this is the beginning of a wonderful friendship. Tristan: Who’s Louis? Rory: Just think. Rory "The" Somebody Else Tristan: Rory - Rory: You said you’d try. Tristan: Hey, I’m sorry Paris is upset ok? But is it better that I keep dating her even though I like somebody else? Rory: Oh. Tristan: Yeah. Rory: I didn’t realize. So...you’re still not over Summer huh? Tristan: Yeah, I’m not over Summer yet. Permission To Date Tristan: One of these is for you. Rory: Oh, I don't think we should go to a concert together. Tristan: Reason? Rory: It would seem like a date. Tristan: Well it would seem like a date because it would be a date. Rory: I can't date you Tristin. Tristan: Well I give you permission. Rory: And on that humble note. (part II coming soon) __________________ I love you too, Sara.
If I don't say this, now. I will surely break as I'm leaving the one I want to take.
