TV GUIDE PODCAST DECEMBER 8TH, 2006

DM = Daniel Manu
MA = Michael Ausiello
AC = Angel Cohn
MMcD = Maitland McDonagh

START 9.01

DM: Let’s talk about the new Gilmore Girls, this week. Angel…
AC: Start with Mike.
DM: What did Michael think?
MA: I went home and watched it at lunch time, because I live like two blocks away; and…
AC: Yeah, rub that right in.
MA: uh, I uh, there were parts that I enjoyed, there were parts of it I wasn’t so crazy about. You know, I love Lorelai and Emily still, all their interactions are—
AC: Any time their together it’s so great.
MA: it’s so great. And it was kind of an unusual poignant scene at the end on the porch where Emily was giving Lorelai some marital advise, and Lorelai I think was taking it back, cuz it kind of made sense. Uhm, the uh Luke-Christopher brawl, I was watching it thinking ‘is this something Amy would ever do?’
AC: No. That was something like, it was like, slowmo. It was very weird.
MA: With the shaky cam, it felt a little bit too NYPD Blue meet Homicide.
AC: Plus, I know I should just, I should just not watch teasers, but they’ve been teasing that fight with Luke ripping off his jacket for like, weeks now. So like, when that was it, I was, like ‘oh’, I wanted more, like, I don’t know.
DM: And haven’t we seen scenes already in teasers of like, Christopher with Lorelai after the fight? Or, or---
MA: No.
AC: No.
DM: I thought that we saw one.
MA: No.
AC: No, just up to this one.
[wawawa]
DM: That was in my dream.
AC: I don’t know, like, there was a scene, where like, Rory and Lorelai are on the phone, and was I like ‘I missed the two of them together.’ Like, I really wish there was more of the two of them together.
MA: But, you know what I really, the moment outside the store, with Luke, Lorelai and the baby.
AC: -- and the baby.
MA: That was the moment that I teased in AA a couple of weeks ago, but there is a Luke and Lorelai moment coming up that you’re gonna like. And it really was a great moment.
AC: It was.
MA: It was great to see them together again, and Dave Rosenthal wrote the episode, and I think overall it was a really entertaining episode. And I thought you know, when he writes an episode, you can--- I think it’s the closest the show comes to the Palladino dialogue.
AC: Yeah. No, the dialogue was great, I have no cripples [??] with that, it’s just the sort of like ‘where is this going?’
DM: To me, to me, my favorite sort of storyline this episode, I think, was more the stuff going on of Rory and Logan--
AC: and Marty.
DM: And Marty and the other girl from Veronica [Mars]. And I loved, to me the best single little moment, and Matt Czuchry was great in that dinner scene, that little look he gives Marty when Marty does the crack about the trust fund.
AC: --the trust fund.
MA: Ohh, yeah! It’s a go.
DM: But the way he looked at--- he lingered his look on Marty for a second, was really, you could see his wheels turning, how is he gonna get back at Marty.
MA: Right.
AC: Right.
MA: You know, that was a nice subtle moment. I totally, I saw that too.
DM: A lot of girls overreacting, what’s the big deal? It’s not like Marty and Rory dated.
MA: No, but I mean, the implication is that they have something to hide.
DM: Right.
MA: You know, by not being forthcoming. So I would have been that upset. You know. I think the real jerk in the episode was Christopher; going back to the other thing. His reaction just seeing Luke and Lorelai outside having a conversation.
AC: Right. Is she not allowed to talk to him, ever. Yeah.
MA: And he freaks out. That’s like, grounds for divorces forming there [???].
DM: Well, they’re obviously setting up. Because we know Christopher is not gonna be on the show the rest of the season.
MA: Yeah.
DM: They’re setting something up there, right?
MA: Oh yeah.
AC: He was just very angry, the entire episode. And that sort of made me uncomfortable, to like, watch him.
DM: And we actually got a mail from a listener named Hank, who kind of, you know, really hated the fact that I was giving Christopher props for ending that horrid knit-a-thon, last week. And he said ‘Christopher is buying out the knit-a-thon is a perfect example of what’s wrong with him. He’s either too self-centered or too dumb to realize that throwing money to a problem doesn’t make you friends.’ It helps though, it helps.
MA: It does help.
DM: And what do you think though, about the whole story line with Luke and the lawyer, and getting sort of semi-custody? That seems almost too serious for Gilmore Girls.
MA: I agree. That is a little bit too serious. It makes sense when you watch it, because she’s being impossible about it.
AC: She is really, really horrid.
MA: But you’re right, it’s a different show. That part of it, that’s a different show.
DM: ‘Cuz that’s something that happens in real life, it’s not like
MA: Are we gonna see a court, like is this gonna be a trial?
AC: Oh my Gosh, maybe there’ll be a cross-over episode with Law&Order.
DM: with Boston Legal.
MA: Well, could you imagine if they end the season, with this big trial and Dave Rosenthal is like ‘Eh, Amy you can have it now’. He could screw her the way she screwed him.
