They probably just recasted the role of her father now that he has a much bigger part.

Back in the finale, he was only used in flashes and they probably weren't picky about who they casted. But now it's different since this is the real deal..they probably wanted someone really good. Shows recast like that all the time.

And I also agree about why Brennan would say "Oh my god" .. it could only be of one of two things really: either she finds out something that upsets her.. or Russ or Booth is in trouble.
