I got into Rowell in season 2. I loved Tess from the start. I did see season 1 eventually. Yes I can see how people might not of liked her.
However the whole storyline didn't make any sense for her to be evil. It should have been Kivar that killed Alex. It made way more sense and fit in with the mythology. Tess saved the group more times than I can count. If it was not for Tess Max would have been killed in the White Room. I rest my case.
I might be a Dreamer at heat but I didn't hate Tess. I felt sorry for Tess. All she wanted was to belong and to fit in. I also couldn't understand how the fans could hate her so much.
I understand the love triangle dynamic but I mean where was the fan outrage when Liz all of the sudden started dating Sean in season 2? Why was it only over when Max decided to be with Tess there was such an outrage?
To me Tess was one of the most complex characters. There were so many layers to her. She encompassed everything about what it meant to be a stranger in a strange land. All she wanted was for people to remember her and to be accepted. Plus she was the most powerful out of the Pod Squad Royal Four.
So I am one of the few MODS that actually likes Tess.
My two favorite Tess moments are when she is on the bench and Max says to her that she can stay and she reaches out her hand and places it on his shoulder as if to say I am here I understand.
I also love the "I remember you" scene. It was all that Tess wanted was for someone to remember her, to love and accept her, and not abandon her.
