If you are a fan of the modern show (2005-), then you will likely appreciate 7 more than any other classic era, as 7 seems to have inspired a lot of the modern show either directly or indirectly. Series 26 is basically the trial-run for the modern show. If you watch the show in order, removing the 1996 tv more, going from Survival (1989) to Rose (2005), I don't think there would be that much of a leap. Ok, in 1989, the budget was being strangled out of the the show by the BBC, but the storytelling as was strong, if not stonger, than it had ever been. Ace wasn't there to run around in low cut tops and high heels like some of the classic female companions were accused of, she was at the centre of those 4 stories, much more than any previous companion.
