Some season 2 information from this interview with Kennedy, Scott, Riley, Melinda the showrunner, and Noga the creator. Nothing super Earth-shattering but it's something finally

~Melinda does the intros and she calls Ryan a "reformed playboy" and Carson a "general beacon of decency" lol
~Kennedy didn't know the big twist when they started filming, Riley and Scott both did. They all talk a lot about how that affected how they play their characters. Kennedy says that she's seen some fans being pretty harsh about Nancy's reaction to Carson after she finds out and says that it's a major betrayal for Nancy. Says Nancy is having a huge conflict of identity and that she hopes they explore that more in season 2.
~Kennedy asks Melinda and Noga what aspects of a triangle they want to bring into the dad triangle dynamic. Noga says that the point of the triangle (the person the other 2 are competing for basically) can always shift. Kind of hints that this might happen with Carson because Ryan also needs a father figure which Carson can be, so he and Nancy might both be looking to Carson as a dad. Melinda says she loves seeing unexpected friendships between the folks at odds and how it plays with other dynamics in the show gives a few examples from other films so we might see that.
~At like 29:25 Riley asks Melinda and Noga about Season 2 except they don't say that much. He asks what things are like in the writer’s room as they put together season 2. Melinda says they try to write the characters with the actors in mind and incorporate their speech patterns. Says that it’s difficult to get past always wanting to push for a new twist and to also get emotional moments with all of the craziness on the show. Melinda praises the writing staff. Kennedy says Melinda picked up on how she says “Oh no no” and they incorporated it into the script. How Nancy says it is how Kennedy says it irl all the time apparently
~Noga asks Riley and Scott where they think Ryan and Scott’s relationships will go with Nancy in S2. Riley mentions a bromance and Scott agrees and says that there’s a lot of potential for exploring that dynamic. Scott says he’s always felt a kind of kinship with Riley and thinks that Carson does have an affection for Ryan through working as his lawyer right after Tiffany died. Says Carson’s whole world is Nancy and that will be super painful for him, and that he really hopes Nancy and Carson “come home to each other” (that’s verbatim what he said and it’s really cute so I had to get it). But says that pining is good storytelling and fun because it gives the audience something to yearn for so he thinks it might not happen right away. Also says that the relationship between Ryan and Nancy is important and hopes that they find a way to each other. Says that each character kind of has a homecoming that needs to happen. Riley agrees.
~Scott asks Noga about the departures from the books, from little things to big departures and the process by which they decide what to be faithful to and when to buck the books. Noga says that since the books have such a legacy they don’t want to mess it up. She says they really wanted to keep what’s best about Nancy Drew “That she’s brave and smart and doesn’t ask for permission”. But says the books have a lot of racism and anti-Semitism which they wanted to leave behind and that they wanted the show to be more inclusive and diverse. Says season 1 was written during and kind of inspired by #metoo movement and s2 will deal with the fallout of that and what else has been happening in our society and culture since then (so maybe we'll see Nancy in quarantine ). Always wants the show to be commenting on the culture it exists in. Says book Nancy is a little too perfect, but they wanted to make a messier Nancy.

In Summary: Nancy is having a huge conflict of identity that Kennedy hopes will be resolved. Ryan has daddy issues and may also start looking to Carson as a father figure within the dad triangle so the potential for a bromance is very strong. Scott hopes Nancy and Carson find their way back to each other but that she also builds a relationship with Ryan. The writers like the show to be inspired by current culture so some current events might be incorporated into next season.
