No, mine don't pop everytime either. I think it was on first trip to Disneyworld, when I had a flight from Atlanta to Orlando, when the lady next to me explained that it has to do with how fast the plane is landing, and the pressure in the cabin. I must have some earplugs somewhere, they work as well.
