hmm … overall the first few episodes of Voyager were a bit dark, but that fit in with them adjusting to melding the crew and being stuck too far from home. Although I guess she's referring to making herself a bit more comfortable with the techno-bablle?

Interesting. I seen Janeway as being comfortable in the Captain's chair, but not as being power hungry.
